My husband and I visited Scotland from Florida, USA. We had the most wonderful experience at Heron. We sat at the corner of the bar and each did the full tasting with wine pairings. Our bartender/server was from Chicago and was so kind and helpful. Each person that brought us a dish gave the most wonderful detailed explanations of each component. Our sommelier was out of this world. You could feel his passion for what he does and his knowledge was vast. My husband and I did different wine pairings so it was fun to try both along with each dish. Overall, an excellent experience. The service and attention we were provided along with the exceptionally delicious dishes will make this a meal we will not forget. Thank you, Heron!

Heron was a one of a kind lunch experience, supported by a wonderfully friendly staff that made this place a must visit. Their cocktail list features some really good drinks and their food options are excellent, with favorites being the Veal sweetbread, potato latke, and the dessert cheese. Heron was my favorite lunch spot in Edinburgh, and 100% worth the visit!

Absolutely fantastic and phenomenal dining experience. All dishes are carefully created using best quality ingredients. The dishes show the passion and creativity of the chef. The flavours of each course are mind blowing. The tasting menu offers an array of incredible distinct course. Our favourite were the hand dived Orkney scallops served with oscietra caviar and pickled cream sauce. We also loved the dessert made with Valrhona chocolate, chai ice cream and which was absolute heaven in mouth. Wont forget the mix of flavours. The staff are really enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgeable. All the courses were described to us, highlighting the cooking techniques and the origin of the ingredients. Our sommelier also gave us some incredible facts about the wines we had. Overall absolutely fantastic dinning experience. The best fine dinning in Edinburgh by far.

Not very good service as for Michelin star restaurant. Waiters talk like robots and I had a feeling that they want to run away asap and go and talk to each other. Tables are dirty all the time, you need to clean by yourself. They see this messy table but they don’t clean it. Dishes are broken, maybe it is part of decoration, I don’t know but it looks so cheap. There is no nice interior design, very dark place and it is overpriced. I visited many places with Michelin star in different countries and I can say that this place I like less. Please change the interior design, put a proper light (my eyes were hurt), let your employees wear a uniform. Nobody has a tidy look: torn jacket, unironed shirt, everyone wearing different type of clothes. You can’t identify waiter. Waiters are mixed with the clients. Overall, it is overpriced. We paid 250£ for two without alcohol. Service charge is 12.5% and you must pay, although there is no good service. Food was good except of the desserts but it was not wowww. I live in Dubai and a simple coffee shop looks better than your restaurant in terms of the service and interior design . Don’t be offended but please take it to your consideration to be better. Best of luck

I had the pleasure of dining at Herron, a one-Michelin-star restaurant. Opting for the tasting menu, we embarked on a culinary journey, and every dish was an exquisite experience. While I'm not a professional food critic, I savored the ten-course meal. However, it's worth noting that the portions were quite small, packed with intense flavors that might have been overwhelming in larger quantities. The hefty price tag, which I was aware of beforehand, was $400 CDN for two, as this meal was a special treat for my girlfriend's birthday. While I thoroughly enjoyed it, I regret that I won't be able to return due to the cost, which exceeds my budget.

My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Heron. It was a fantastic experience from start to finish. We both opted for the Tasting Menu and were delighted with our choice. Where to start... the quality of the ingredients, the flavours (and the way the courses complemented each other), the presentation, the service - the whole experience was of an exceptionally high standard.

Honestly can’t say enough good things about my experience at heron. The service was warm and friendly - never stuffy - you can tell the love for the dishes, ingredients, and spirits they have. The food simply put was phenomenal. Each course was a delight and most has lovely surprises (in a good way). Be sure to get the tasting menu (a phenomenal value) and come ready to indulge fully (I found the portions generous!). Will be making a point to always make time for Heron when in Edinburgh. This place is special.

I did a little research before heading to Edinburgh to meet friends staging a production for Fringe and found this little gem. Since it was a last minute trip and wasn't able to plan dinner reservations with more time, I was destined to dine alone. But being the first to arrive for dinner, i was shown to a table front and center looking at Water of Leith. Since i dined there over two months ago August 02, 2023, following are my notes from dinner. Strawberry cocktail, tart and light. Lots of empty foam though. So instead of the block of ice we get half glass of foam. First snack, jalapeño granite with cucumbers. Light and refreshing good palette cleanser. The jalapeños add a little kick that was nice. Bread and butter. Butter looks like a meringue. Lobster dumpling with caviar and crab tarlet with tomatoes gelée. The lobster tasted like a wonton with lobster. The crab tart was interesting. Mackerel, cured in soy. I am not sure what else is in it, but is very good. The fishiness is removed somehow and there is a sweetness to the sauce . It had ponzu gelée. Potato in cream fresh and a whole bunch is other stuff topped by an oyster leave. Not sure I've had that before but it tastes like the ocean. The cream was yummy. And the ocean tasting leave interesting. Fish course. Amazingly cooked. Extra crispy skin and buttery almost creamy flesh. With the tiniest of croutons that add a layer or crunchiness. Bathed in a chicken and olive stock. Yummy. Saltiness of the olive washed off somehow, you taste a little of olive salt when bitten but otherwise well balanced, tricky to achieve with the amount of olives in the sauce. Quail course. Not sure what it has. Let's see...the au jus delicious. Quail was OK. The cherry was a surprise and the BBQ mushrooms were good. Deer loin, celeriac puree and grilled with summer truffle. Mushrooms and candied walnuts. Tender loin, delicious sauce and can't go wrong with celeriac puree. Didn't taste much of the summer truffle. But still quite good. First dessert. Berries and caviar made of the berries. Mille feuille, gelato and mascarpone espuma. The gelato sitting on fine pine nuts and white chocolate. Espuma delicious. Mascarpone mille feuille was OK Petit four. I'd definitely recommend the place. Staff and service was cordial and welcoming. I'd go back
